Itinerary
In the morning, after breakfast, a guide will brief you about the trip. You will then be driven southwestwards to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, with stopovers at the Equator and at Mbarara town for lunch. You will then continue with the scenic drive to Kabale town through the beautiful highland sceneries that made Kigezi region to be known as the “Switzerland of Africa”. You will then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for check-in into the park and your accommodation.
In the morning, you will assemble at the park headquarters for briefing from the park rangers about the do’s and don’ts when you encounter mountain gorillas. You will meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour, then descend to the park headquarters thereafter to your Lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the evening, many travelers opt to go for a community walk in the nearby Batwa (Pygmies) community, where you will be entertained and given tales of their unique culture. As the original dwellers of this ancient jungle, the Batwa were known as “The Keepers of the Forest.” The history of these small-statured people is long and rich. The Batwa survived by hunting small game using arrows or nets and gathering plants and fruits in the rain forest. Some anthropologists estimate that pygmy tribes such as the Batwa have existed in the equatorial forests of Africa for 60,000 years or more. Later you will enjoy dinner at your lodge or hotel.
In the morning after your breakfast, you will set off on your journey back to Kampala and/or to Entebbe or your area of residence, passing through different towns where you might stop for hot barbeque, fruits and well-curved souvenirs. You may have a stopover in Mbarara Town at Igongo Cultural Centre for lunch or on the Ugandan Equator.
